Gina is currently Professor of Child Language and Learning. She did her first degree in Psychology in New York followed by a Masters in Linguistics from Cambridge. She then focused on child language development and impairments obtaining both her clinical qualification as a speech and language therapist and her Ph.D. in Communication Disorders.
She is the director of a national longitudinal study on specific language impairment (SLI) from 7 years of age to adult life. She holds major research grants from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Nuffield Foundation and the Wellcome Trust. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and Academician of the Social Sciences. Gina has been a visiting scholar internationally including Harvard University and La Universidad de Chile.
Gina also has an interest in the interface between clinical practice and research. She was editor of the Journal of Language and Communication Disorders until 2001 and she was involved in the development of national clinical guidelines for language disorders in children.
